I do about 20 on fabric and 60 on leather.
I did a stropping experiment a few years ago. Do a search on "the grand experiment" and learn why.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Am I the only one finds stropping a royal pain in the ass? The only part of the straight razor ritual I really don't enjoy.

I have a long strip of leather that was turned into a strop. The top half is treated with 0.1 micron ferrous oxide, which is a very gentle abrasive. The bottom half is untreated leather. Between shaves it is about 20 passes on the ferrous oxide, wipe the blade, and about 20 passes on the leather.

I dont bother with the canvas any more, unless I am stropping a blade fresh off the hone, or on the occassion that I may use cromox I will follow with the canvas.
I previously had a TI paddle and did 100 strokes as a standard. Now I have a custom Neil Miller paddle, and do 30 strokes on English bridle, and 50 on tallow tan.

Thanked: 369I do 22 strokes on linen, then leather, for a total of 44 strokes. It's a magic number. 4 + 4 = 8 which is the number for infinity, which is why my razor never gets dull or needs a touch up.

I've only stropped my razor, my new razor, once after a shave and that time i did just 10 laps. Not wanting to spoil the edge.
