Question about pasted strop
While asking about what hone to use to maintain razors that are already honed ( http://straightrazorpalace.com/hones/53334-maintaining-razor-edge-2.html#post593418 ), it was suggested all I needed was a barber hone and CrOX pasted strop. The hone part I have figured out so my question regards the strop. I have an Illinois Razor 127 on the way which has a separate leather and linen strop. Now my question is can I use one side of linen as a pasted strop while using the other side as just a normal linen strop or do I need a separate strop for this? I've also seen the homemade balsa wood paddles on here that I could do as well but if I can get away without that I will for now. Thanks.

Thanked: 2209Abrasives have a way of migrating to surfaces where you don't want them.
Put the CrOx on a seperate strop.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

+1. Keep them as separate as you can. You can make a balsa or denim strop quickly and cheaply, so its worth it to stop your daily strop becoming contaminated.

Thanked: 324I'm with these guys. Keep your linen/leather strop free of abrasives. A piece of wood, a piece of leather, a little glue or double-backed tape and abrasive powder, paste is all you need.

Thanked: 1903Day three with my SRD modular paddle. If I were using it exclusively, I think I would miss the webbed fabric. Other than that, it is a viable alternative to a hanging strop, and the paddle pads can be loaded with all sorts of abrasives without running the risk of cross contamination. Seriously cool piece of equipment.
