Thanked: 0Amplex Diamond Compounds
I was researching the Amplex diamond compounds. I found an additional source other than classicshaving. However, they have the compounds listed as light, medium, and heavy. I was wondering if someone knows what is sold at classicshaving.
In addition, what should I start with? Some suggest nine and others say three. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Finally, are the compounds that much better than the stones. The one benefit I see is the price. To purchase all those stones would cost a fortune. As always your helps is appreciated.
Regards,
John Cappuccilli
PS. Does anyone know of a source for the Amplex?

I have used the 0.5 micron (chromium oxide stick) as a finisher after honing with the stones and it is all you need to finish. The 0.25 is an unnecessary luxury IMO. For long term sustaining of the edge in the absence of the stone I'd suspect the 1µ is essential and probably the 3µ(2?) as well. I don't know about the 9. Tony Miller ands the other pasties() should chime in soon, but still, a 4 sided paddle strop with 9,3,1 & 0.5 should leave you good to go for anything.

The most commonly used Amplex compound is the standard concentration, water based. This is what Classic Shaving sells and the one I use to pre-paste. It can be found at most industrial supply (machine shop) houses but likely at a higher cost than Classic Shaving.
