Thread: The Grand Experiment Final Phase

Starting tomorrow I'll be concluding this long winded experiment.

I will be using the two TI SRP Razors #38 and 39 and 38 will get 60x passes on the strop before shaving and 39 will get 100x passes on the strop.

I'm just curious since we now know 60x passes is better than 30x is there a point where you get no benefits. stay tuned.

For those who care this a just a progress report on this ongoing experiment.

At this point each razor has given about 10 shaves and both are still neck and neck though there is some deterioration in the shave comfort on both. I have a feeling that there will be no meaningful difference between stroping 60x or 100x but the next week or so should bring out any differences if there are to be any.

this is an interesting experiment. do you think 60 is the point where the law of diminishing returns comes into effect or is it fewer?

I'm thinking 60 is about it. I used a different shaver this morning and I can see there has been considerable deterioration in the comfort level in both razors. They both give very good shaves closeness wise but are just beginning to pull slightly. Another 5 or so shaves with each is the most I'll probably get and I'll be suprised if one really pulls away from the other at this point.

Well after about 15 shaves per razor I'm calling it quits on this experiment. Though both razors still give excellent shaves in the closeness department the comfort level has gone below what I will tolerate.

So the conclusion here is that since both deteriorated equally I would say there is no advantage to stroping 100x over 60x. As to where the sweet spot is here I'll leave that to someone else to figure out. We know that 60x is better than 30x and more than 60x does nothing further so I would reckon that somewhere between 30x and 60x is where it lies. For me I'll be stroping 60x from now on.
