Default Help in lieu of a strop

Help please. I've got a strop and a paddle strop coming from Tony but it's still somewhere in orbit.
I've used all of my shave ready razors once without stropping but now need to do something quickly.
If I use a belt, how smooth does it have to be, I guess quite smooth ?.
Help suggestions wfor using something I have already at home.

    Gary,

Smooth is a relative term, but no stitching is allowed. In fact, take a pair of denim jeans, stretch them taught, and use them! Otherwise, relax and wait on the strops. The worst thing you can do is rush things.

Stropping is definitely preferred, but you oughta be able to get more than one decent shave out of one without it.

    Gary,

I just went through this after my strop was stolen from my hotel room from one of the cleaning staff (dont even get me started ) At any rate, I just used a regular belt I wear with jeans. Not super smooth like a dress belt, but not a weird texture either. While it probably didnt work as well as a good strop (especially not one of Tony's) it did work pretty damn well, and I got some good shaves out of it.
