Thanked: 1i do not know about the rockwell strops. But i beleive the rockwell razors are cheap pakistani crap. therefore i woudl assume the rockwell strops woudl be substandard as well.

The thing about stuff like that is that it'll work......but probably not last long enough for you to enjoy for the rest of your life. On the other hand when just starting (as I'm still sortof doing) buying a cheap strop is not a bad idea. I bought a cheap strop and pakistani to start with. The pakistani has long been referred to the trshcan. But the strop is still good. Someday I'll buy one from tony, but not untill I'm sure that I won't nick or slice it into pieces.
And believe me, when starting out I DID make some nice slices into my strop.

I bought a Rockwell strop well before I joined this forum, I now have a 3" Latigo from Tony and let me tell you , there is no comparison whatsoever.
Until you get a quality strop you will not realise what you are missing, the Rockwell is not a quality leather or finish, its what it is "Cheap", you will also struggle to get any feedback whatsoever. Tony's strop was a revelation to me, not just that you can actually feel the razor working on the strop and guage whats happening but the quality of the material & craftmanship shines through too.
Do yourself ,a big big favour Peter and buy a quality strop, you will save yourself the money in the long run, it will be a wise investment.

Thanked: 2209I have seen a number of strops and Tony Millers is as good as they get. Forget the rockwell stuff, if you want to go cheap then use an old belt. It will be as good or better than a Rockwell strop.
Hope this helps,Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

You'll still need a hanging strop, so you may want to get in touch with Tony anyways lol.

Thanked: 0strops
I have 5 strops total. None are rockwell, but I have some good brand names. I have an Illinois strop, a couple of dovo's and a couple of Tony Miller strops.
The Illinois and the Dovo's are good strops and you wont go wrong with them, but; The Tony Miller stropps have the rest beat hands down. Tony's strops are priced competitively and are not only the best quality, they are also the best buy.
Make your own choice, but dont go total budjet because the stropp is a long term relationship. lol
