    Question Just a quick one?

Ok so i just got my Dovo Astrale back from Lynn and I also received my new english bridal strop as well.
My question is how many times on the webbing and how many times on the leather to maintain the wonderful edge that Lynn put on it.

    Thanks

    Malcolm

I do 30 fabric and 60 leather before each shave and then 15 fabric and 30 leather afterwards. The stropping afterwards ensures the edge is totally dry and free from any microgunk that might still be on there.

This works very well for me..!

I'd ask Lynn directly what is best. Some who have honed razors for me have actually sent the razor honed and stropped, ready to shave with.

It's important (IMO) to get an idea of the edge that the honist put on the razor so when I've sent one out, I usually shave with it right out of the package unless the honist says it should be stropped. When I think to do so, I usually ask them to strop it as they think best so I can shave with the blade as an expert has prepared it.

Don't pull that beautiful blade out and start doing stuff to it without knowing exactly what your are doing!

If you're an experienced shaver you will be safe stropping. I usually do around 20 on fabric and 60 on leather before shaving only. If you are not experienced I would probably shave first before stropping just to get a baseline on sharpness.

    Default Just a Quick One?

    Gentlemen:

For my daily stropping, I use 25 strokes on fabric or linen and 75 on leather. Sometimes I change the ratio to 50/100, especially with the harder steel razors. The count after the shave is 15 on fabric or linen and 25 on leather.

When I receive a newly honed razor, I usually do 50 strokes on leather only. I figure the razor's been bounced around in the postal package for a few days, so some leather might do it good.

    Regards,
    Obie

I think you are going to get 100 different answers on this, so I say use 100 as a magic number.

I usually do 40 on the canvas and 60 on the leather before my shave. Some do 25/75, 30/70 and some do 50/50. I say do whatever you find works best for you, but I think 40/60 seems to work for me.

I also do 15/15 after each shave.

I may be different than some, I tend to not do too many passes on the strop. Usually I hit 20-30 on Fabric and then 30 on leather, works fine for me. I usually hit the leather again when I am done shaving because, like said, it helps dry the blade.

Also it's fun, so why not.

I've used both the SRD webbed fabric and linen and both can be used in this way.

I've heard it is also possible to use unpasted felt as well, though I've not tried that myself.

I have linen on my strop, it's all I have ever used. No complaints.
