a note on shaving after inflicting some butchery
'Grats on making the move to a str8. That's saying first things first.
A note on shaving after you've gotten a few nicks, and I say this only 'cause to a noob (I'm only at 4/5 mo.), it's not always obvious. If you have nicks, you can't shave over them again & not expect more irritation of the nick - so you don't want to form an opinion about a blade's edge if you don't have clear skin to test it on. It would be a tragic judgement of a blade.

Thanked: 0Some worries...continued
Thanks for the suggestions. I believe that this razor was never hand-honed per my vendors claim when I purchased it. (A Friday blade) On my first shave I never experienced the hot knife through butter experience with it, and I shouldn't have to push the blade onto my skin with it to shave. I wont bother this vendor about it; they will claim that I ruined it anyway and chalk it up to lesson learned. I will have it rehoned and try again.

Thanked: 30I have yet to buy something shave ready that is. I quickly learned to hone myself because of this and it has made me much happier.

I can see that now. But first I would like to have an enjoyable shave with a razor that is ready for it so it can feel worth it for the extra expense of a second razor; and honing equiptment. So, back to the old shaving method until I get this blade in shape....
