This is "old school" where erosion and corrosion might improve
the edge. With modern sub micron abrasives the rules are changed.
It does pay to try it yourself.
The fat in strop dressing can protect the edge from corrosion
and with modern hones this can be a good thing.

Thanked: 84Rested Razor?
My friends' family came here from Italy. His grandfather, father and three uncles shared one razor- so up to 5 shaves a day. I never met them, but my friend would have 5 o'clock shadow at noon, and I'm guessing that their razor never had a rest, nor did their strop.
Come to think of it, I only owned one razor for 25 years. That has changed, though.
I'm gonna side with the group here that it's a 'wives tail, marketing scheme', idea.

Assuming it to be a myth(IMHO a very silly one), there maybe an even bigger myth, that there are members on this forum that only own one razor.
