    Default strop care?

k, ive searched for a bit now, and my eyes hurt, ack. ive got an old strop(Jumbo Hone Horsehide Strop\Motor City Barbers Supply\24"x2.5"), and i need to know what i should clean it up with. it was included in a razor auction on ebay the linen side is pretty glazed\dirty, leather side is just a lil stiff and hard feeling, from age im guessing. soap n water for the linen side, what about the leather side? just rub in some strop dressing? thanx.

I'm sure everyone has their own favorites for cleaning a strop so you'll get plenty of answers. Personally, depending on just how dirty it is I like to use Bick leather cleaner and then follow that with Bick leather conditioner. An alternative would be Lexol cleaner and conditioner which is easier to get than Bick which is usually sold in tack shops or some boot stores.

You can use Goop hand cleaner, available at most auto parts places, to clean the leather. It also contains lanolin which helps condition the leather. You're right on with soap & water for the linen. Just take the strop apart & clean away.
