Tony Miller's Heirloom #1 BEST Wide 3" hanging leather strop.
If you guys are looking for an excellent leather strop you need to look at Tony Miller's line of strops.
I bought his Heirloon #1 Best Wide 3" hanging leather strop with the red latigo leather.
First of all I was expecting a nice strop. But when it came I couldn't believe what it was. It was absolutely the nicest strop I could imagine. It had 3" wide red latigo leather that was treated very nicely. Then the linen on the back side was also 3 inches wide and had a very nice feel to it. The hardware on this strop is thick D rings and the leather and linen were cut to fit these D rings very nicely. This strop has in it the quality that you would expect from Tony. The hanging hardware is nice as you can tie it to something and then release the strop from it if you wanted to.
I then stropped a razor. The linen side really has a nice feel to it. Such a feel that you can just imagine it realigning the fin on the edge. The leather also has a very nice feel to it. The drag on the blade feels just right. Also being 3 inches wide you can either do the X pattern or not because the width accomodates probably my longest blade.
I am "tooting the horn" for Tony, with his permission, as he doesn't toot his own horn very much. I can only imagine his other strops are of the same quality as this one. If you guys haven't tried one you should.
I might give a hint and that is if you are not used to stropping you might want to use an eBay strop or a cheaper strop because when one is learning to strop one has a tendancy to nick the leather when flipping the blade on the up stroke and the backstroke. Then when you get this process down pat then you can move up to one of Tony's strops without the fear of nicking the leather.
Tony's website is: http://www.thewellshavedgentleman.com/if anything has been abnormal for a long enough period it then becomes normal.

I'm not in the least bit surprised. Great post, Bill. Thanks for reaffirming my own belief.

Larry,
Your paddle is on it's way tomorrow. I am using a new natural leather now even nicer than before. Pics of the new surface will be on my site in a few days.
BTW, I like your avatar.
