Default first strop -- did it backwards.

Just had my first official SE shave (well aboout 80% - still scared of the lips and adams apple). I just looked at the Classic Shaving Stropping directions and realized I stropped wrong (I KNEW something was off!).

I assume that I didnt do irreperable harm to my razor if I stropped "backwards" --blade first --, do I just double up in the correct direction tomorrow?

    Thanks, ad

If you managed to strop your razor with the cutting edge leading, and didn't chop up your strop, then you have done extremely well. I can't say you didn't dull the razor but it's not irreparable, either.

If the shave wasn't really harsh, then you probalby did extremely nominal, if any, damage.

Wth my luck, if I'd tried to strop in that manner, my strop would be lying oon the floor in ribbons!

No, you focus on the correct technique with the "normal" number of passes.

I'm thinking the strop may need some remedial therapy now like a good pumicing or pasting after IT's "shave"...

I need to go laydown now after reading this

at least Tony is on vacation so he won't faint when he read this lol.

Seriously, dont worry about it, Ive done my share of things I look back on and just want to smack myself hehe...fond memories now. I agree you may want to pumice the strop, it depends how bad it is. If the surface leather is real chopped up or no longer smooth, you may want to think twice about using it till its all fixed up.

By the way I went two weeks without a strop and ended using the belt I wear daily and my shaves werent bad, so if you have to wait until you fix your strop or at worst get a new one, you can always using a flat belt.

    atracksler,
I'm not sure which razor you went 'backward' on, but if it was the one you got from me, and it damaged the edge, send it back to me and I'll re-hone it for you, no charge. Mistakes happen, although this is the first time I've heard of this particular one.

actually I went backwards on my pasted paddle strop when I first got it...I had read so much about honing that day and I wasnt thinking about what I was doing and went backwards for a few strokes before I said oh $%&@ and corrected myself...
