The only hesitation I have from getting the crayon is that some are less than 15% pure CrOx...they may have lots of other crud in it.
The one I have from SRD is excellent and is very easy to not overload. Just draw large X's on it then wipe with a clean rag. Perfect amount and they last forever!!!!

I have been thinking about ordering some of the bark river green or white stropping compounds.

Figured I'd ask if anyone has any experience with them before I pull the trigger.

I know the company makes knives but the green is ~8000 while the white is ~12000 from what I have been reading.

They seem worth it to test out.

Just be aware, that most of the CrO that people use and talk about here is 0.5micron, which is closer to 30,000

You're probably right about the grit I was just throwing out a number.

The grit size is also .5 micron on the green compound I mentioned above. Just not sure about the white.

That's one reason I'd be concerned. If the green really is listed as .5 micron, and also listed as 8k, something is hinky. It may have a highly inconsistent particle size, or it may really be CrO for color in a coarser compound. I'd stick with one that was well known.

I agree that it is kinda hinky.

It's always listed as .5 but on different sites they all say a different grit rating. Probably the company not exactly sure the actual grit rating.

That being said I have some trusted crox sample from a friend on the way. So maybe I'll just compare the two and see how they do.

In Europe it may be cheaper to get Puma chromox. paste.

From the source: 900003 Puma Streichriemenpaste
Or here in smaller quantity: Kochmesser :: PUMA Streichriemenpaste extrafein :: MESSERKONTOR

In my experienca most on line shops that sell loom and paddle strops sell Puma paste. I wouldn't worry about the chromox content, the other stuff in a crayon is needed to keep it on the leather.

I have Lynn's Modular Paddle Strop, and I'm curious about those Bark River pastes too. Do you think they could be applied to the rough leather pad that comes with the strop?
