    I know of one guy who does and uses it regularly. He sharpens entirely on strops charged with a progression of diamond grits. He made me a series of diamond "pastes" (for lack of a better word), I still haven't used them. He also happens to cut stones as a hobby and had the powder for that purpose.
    Having not tried it I cannot attest for the edges.

    Yes, it's intended use is for polishing very hard materials. Is there some advantage performance wise over pastes?
