    Scott,

You go boy! Thats awesome. I try and work a blade for a month and feel like I'm pushing it. But I don't usually use a really sharp blade in the first place.

    Drsch,

I stop once I get the draw, no more playing around. If your losing it I think that means you've made a bad swipe. I don't recall losing the draw, after having achieved it. I obtain max draw by going down perpendicular and using a slight x pattern if I am failing to obtain a draw. I think perpedicular is easier and covers all the honing angles. I use very light pressure on the last 4 strokes.

I don't slap the razor on the strop either, just to clarify. :-)

Well I was bored and went ahead and tried that slapping technique. Its really hard to get down right but it works, no kidding. I used pressure and slapping and got the razor stropped up and shaving really nicely. I tried to use the same pressure for a full swipe and rolled the edge instantly. I reset it with the slapping technique. As long as you hit the strop near the center (about 1/3 the way down the strop from each side) and don't push toward the end it works and produces enormous draw. Can't really say I see any reason to do it, but it is fun. A light touch and full swipes would still seem more "safe". The key is the sense of push off after the slap. Too much fun! Just don't cut your strop in the process. :-) A paddle would probably be easier, maybe I'll try that tomorrow. I don't recommend you try it unless your well experienced or have extra strops lying around...lol. But atleast I know it does work.

Don't try it on a real, wood backed paddle, it has no give. If you are gonna slap your razor like that, use the exact strop the barber uses...

Ahhh good point . . . I'll probably just skip it and try on the hanging strop a few more times, if the whim hits me. I'm hoping it doesn't though! LOL
