    I cleaned my star 2in black latigo strop with williams soap and a pumice stone, when I dried it before applying neatsfoot oil it leeched greenish color onto the towel.

    More than likely it is the dye but it shouldn't flake. I'd get in touch with him and ask. I've only dealt with him once but he seemed like a stand up fellow. And if you need a brush the frank shaving best badger from him is quite nice.
