Is my Strop a dud
Guys,
Before I came across this site I bought a strop (wasn't cheap either) locally but the reverse side is grey looking and feels like sandpaper - stamped into the surface at the top is CABORUNDUM FILLED while the other side is plain leather.
The make is Royal Super 99 and is made in Australia. It has quite a good draw on the leather but I don't realy trust the otheras it turned a slightly dull razor into a butter knife. Have any of you guys heard of these strops or the material on the reverse.
Realy I'm hoping you'll say junk it and I can get one of Tony's

Seriously though, I've never heard of this one. Any way you can post a photo of it?

Sorry, I don't own a digital camera, it just looks like grey paint over the leather with bricks stuck in it.
I was told that it was to replace using strop paste as the cutting compound was already in it.

Most carborundum I've seen is used for things like non skid in commercial applications or really coarse abrasives. It is really hard. It will cut saphire like a hot knife through butter. I don't think I would use it on a straight.
