After playing around with some "nano-grit" CBN sprays on balsa, and also CrOx and balsa, I find that I much prefer hanging strops.
Crox on balsa were ok, but I just don't like the feel of balsa honing. Also, diamond sprays are said to be almost too effective on a balsa strop, making for a harsh feel. But of course, YMMV.

Thanked: 1262I found chromium oxide works pretty well on balsa. Every other type of spray I have tried has been harsh off of it though.

Gags,
I polish with a slab of balsa. Chromium oxide powder (.5 micron) in mineral oil on one side and ferrous oxide (.1 or.2 micron) on the other. It works well for me.

Balsa works well, if sanded smooth and pasted or sprayed evenly, IMO. Some balsa wood is harder than other pieces, as in any natural substance. The softer stuff works best. I use .5 micron diamond on occasion for refreshening. A bit after honing evens things out on some razors. As with anything pasted, too much will cause harshness. 10 strokes and hit the leather!
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
