I have a very bright LED flashlight. By positioning it on a support and shining it edge on the edge of the razor and looking at the edge, also edge on while avoiding looking into the flashlight one easily see chips, wire edges etc. I used that method effectively while trying to restore two razors. I like your advice because with loup or flashlight, one can actually find out even before shaving.
