paddle strop
I have two different grades of diamond paste on the way so I decided to whip up a paddle strop ,never made one before ,it only took about 20min
Two bits of scrap wood screwed together ,flattened on a linisher, deer antler handle and two layers of balsa each side.
Could some one please advise me on the best method of applying the diamond paste ,any help would be greatly appreciated

Cool, just rub it in sparingly. You need not cover the entire paddle. Mine came in a syringe and I just touch the tip to a few places and rub with my thumb.

Nice work Peter. I have a fellow who just order a 2 sided paddle from me and wants the handle left loose so he can make a fancy one for it.
You will find the first application of pastes the most difficult as it wants to soak in. Later applications down the road seem to go on very smoothly and take very little paste as the surface is well sealed by then. You really want the paste embedded in the leather surface, not sitting heavily on top. better to use too little than too much at first. Your first few passes may find the strop feeling "grabby" until a slight glaze forms.

Thanked: 2209When I apply my paste I usually dilute it with some GOOP automotive nonabrasive hand cleaner 50/50. Then I rub it in well and let dry. I used 3 pea sized drops of the abrasive paste and 3 GOOP drops on the first application. The second application only required two of each. (Small peas

How it will work on balsa I don't know.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Are there any other alternatives to Goop? Can mink oil be used as well?

Ilija,
remember that the usualy Amplex diamond pastes I use and that Clasic Shaving sells are water based. This may not work with mink oil. I am surprised it works with Goop as I thought it was petrolium based as well.
That said I know one fellow here has pasted my red latigo, also with oils in the leather.
