Default Got a new stop.. got a question.

I received a new strop, a gift friend a local member, the on I've been using (on loan) has a fabric strip and a leather strip. I strop the fabric first then the leather. My new strop has 2 leather sides a soft suede feeling side, and a regular leather side. My question is, which should I use first?

    Thank You,
    Troy

The progression is coarsest to smoothest.

When you say the leather has two sides do you mean the "suede" side is the underside of the regular leather?

No, they are two seperate pieces. The suede side seems like the the side I would start with. Its not super soft, just has a "fluffy" texture instead of smooth.

I've been messing around with mine too, and have just decided to use the "suede" side only, I just don't like the feel of the other side. Let me know how it works out.

Yes, my friend Ryan is correct. Start with coarse and end with soft. I generally do 25 strokes on the coarse side and 50 on the the leather, or 50 on the coarse side and 100 on the leather. I would rather strop a razor than do a lot of other things in life.

You don't like the feel of the plain leather side? Try lathering it.
