    Default Antique Combination Strop

    Hello everyone!
I'm new here, and eager to learn. That being said, I need some pointers on what I should do with this old strop that I've recently come upon. This thing is quite old, and has been sitting in a drawer for at least 30 years I think. As it says on the box, it is a Howard (No. 1) Strop Co. (Boston, Mass.) Combination Razor Strop. Metal Paste Box, Perfected Handle. Patented July 17, 1883.

If you can tell from the picture, the construction is such that there are two solid side, red and black - which according to the directions on the box you are supposed to use first and in that order, and then two buffed leather sides stretched from the handle to the top. It actually seems to be in relatively good shape, though the leather is a bit worn, particularly around the edges where it looks almost like suede. The red and black sides are both smooth. They're worn, but not really damaged.

    1. Anyone know anything about this thing?
    2. Is it cool to start using it after maybe a little renovation?
    3. If yes to 2, what steps should I take to fix it up?

    Any responses appreciated!
    Thanks guys,
    Thaddeus.

Yep, I have two in my scope. Just waiting for someone to talk about it, so I can tell if it's something I should consider. lol
