    Question Chromium Oxide?

I have never used Chrox before and I'm not sure where the best place is to get it cheap. I found some by the lb on the bay but it's for lapidary work and I Know that's not the right stuff. I heard you can get it cheap in the right micron for paint. Any help would be great.

Off the top of my head...

Straightrazordesigns, thesuperiorshave, classicshaving and probably a few small vendors I am forgetting.

I believe the purity is the big difference. In the cheaper lapidary stuff the micron sizes can vary a lot more. IAAITTYMMV*

lapidary work is I believe polishing gems and lenses and such, so you can try it.
Other wise SRD is your source.

The lapidary variety usually comes in bars and contains other polishing components you might not want to use on your razors. However, rock shops often sell the pure stuff as a powder.

No the stuff I was looking at was just powdered chromium oxide by the pound. Said it was for lapidary work and polishing, I know that the bars often contain other abrasives like aluminum oxide or boron.

KremerPigments.com sellrs 0.3 micron chromium oxide powder. It is very pure in particle size and average particle size. (I talked to the technical staff, and received the tech sheet.)

The good powdered CrOx used to be sold through Hand American - the stuff that ChrisL used to sell in the Classifieds. I'm not sure if they still sell it, but if they do I can vouch for it's quality
