Chromium Oxide?
I have never used Chrox before and I'm not sure where the best place is to get it cheap. I found some by the lb on the bay but it's for lapidary work and I Know that's not the right stuff. I heard you can get it cheap in the right micron for paint. Any help would be great.

Thanked: 1262Off the top of my head...
Straightrazordesigns, thesuperiorshave, classicshaving and probably a few small vendors I am forgetting.
I believe the purity is the big difference. In the cheaper lapidary stuff the micron sizes can vary a lot more. IAAITTYMMV*

The lapidary variety usually comes in bars and contains other polishing components you might not want to use on your razors. However, rock shops often sell the pure stuff as a powder.

KremerPigments.com sellrs 0.3 micron chromium oxide powder. It is very pure in particle size and average particle size. (I talked to the technical staff, and received the tech sheet.)

Thanked: 1195The good powdered CrOx used to be sold through Hand American - the stuff that ChrisL used to sell in the Classifieds. I'm not sure if they still sell it, but if they do I can vouch for it's quality

Thanked: 2591they stopped selling any products direct long a go.
I think now they only supply stropping bases and pads to some online stores, now I think many places sell the same quality powder as Hand American did. The Hand American suspension CrO was their own product and was working great, and would never fall out of suspension.Stefan

Thanked: 16I recently purchased some Chromium Oxide from Straight Razor Designs. The stuff is like a thick crayon, and although you don't get much it will still probably last a long time. I made myself a simple paddle strop with a balsa face. I lapped it flat and drew on the CrOx. I was moderately liberal with my application. A paper towel ,rubbed aggressively, removed the excess, leaving an even coating. This performed miracles since I was previously coming off a Norton 8k. I thought about trying to find CrOx somewhere else, but I knew that the stuff I bought was guaranteed to do the job right. Less than $20 shipped isn't to much of a sacrifice.
