Thanked: 13Is this strop good for first straight razor
Hi all,
I'm trying to find my first strop for use with my first straight razor. I was woundering if you could tell me if this strop is any good?
http://www.classicshaving.com/catalo...944/817101.htm
I'm actually from the UK and I'm finding it very difficult to find any UK sites that have good strops. They are either too small or too expensive. So if anyone knows of a UK site that sells good strops at a resonable price (like there is at classicshaving.com) I would be very greatful.
Thanks again,
Steven

It's a bit on the small side but serviceable. If I were you I'd get a full-sized model from Tony M at www.thewellshavedgentleman.com for about the same price and he won't gouge you on the shipping. Even if you get a slightly more expensive model, you'll still save a couple of bucks.

I have to agree Tony Miller has the best strops at reasonable prices.

No need for false modesty Tony. It's a well-known fact that your workmanship is only matched by your customer service, so our praises should come as no surprise.

I have one of Tony's strops, and I love it. The leather is a lot thicker, and the proportions in general a lot "beefier" than what you get in most commercial strops. I wouldn't hestiate to recommend it.
I wish that diamondedge site had better pictures - it's hard to tell anything about the product from what they have by way of picture and text.

Diamondedge are not the company they used to be I'm sad to say. I have one of thier stops form 24 years ago ( 3inch wide 24inch long Russian shell, Irish linen) I have yet to find better. I recently bought thier top end strop to use as a paste strop. Although not the best, it would certainly suit a beginner for quality and price.
I'm sure this will amuse but I'll say it anyway. One of my best strops is made from a weight lifters belt.Last edited by PuFFaH; 10-31-2006 at 10:33 PM.
