Default Pastes and what to use them on.

I understand that alot of people use balsa wood faced paddle strops for diamond pastes, can the dovo red, green etc pastes be used on a balsa wood faced paddle strop or does it have to be a leather faced???

Balsa wood works for everything although the cutting will be slower than on leather.

Your welcome. Sorry it took so long for someone to reply. Keep in mind that slower is not bad, or good. Just slower.

I'll second that. My favorite paddle right now is persimmon with 1.3 micron boron carbide paste on it. I prefer the persimmon because it's harder than balsa but still porous enough to hold the paste. It's quite a bit slower than my 1 micron diamond-on-leather paddle, but stropping is pretty quick so it doesn't really matter much. And it produces a very keen, very smooth edge that feels a lot nicer than the finer-grit diamond.
