Thread: 3 inch wide canvass?

Anyone know where I can get 3" wide canvass for my new strop I have made? I can find plenty of sources for 2" canvass straps (presumably for making bags etc) but cannot find a 3" strap.

Failing this I will have to get a canvass sheet and get out the sewing machine...........

How about a cotton strap?

You may want to ask Tony Miller (SRP member) who makes strops himself and may want to sell you some.

Thanks Kees. I contacted Tony but no reply. Guess it is a cheeky question as the guy sells strops himself and won't want to give away any secrets.

I'm going to get some thick linen and sew it at christmas when I get back to my parents house as they have a sewing machine.

Actually Tony's very helpful even with us DIYers. However, I haven't seen him around these days and I am getting mildly concerned. Does anyone know what he's been up to?

I'm still here, just swamped with work.

Bobbo, Did you check your Private Messages? I sent a replay a few days after you contacted me.

I should have more 3" in stock in a week and also suggested Tilly as a source for 2 1/2" linen. I do not usually sell this but did offer to help. I don't share my construction secrets but will supply leather and linen when I have enough on hand.

I'm now thinking I didn't get your request but did get one from Eric "Pinda" in the UK asking the same question and replied to that. I must have confused it with your request.

Anyway, 3" in a few weeks, 2 1/2" now and 4" as well.
