Thanked: 0Dovo 6/8 and New Strop Enroute - Advice Needed
Hey Gang,
My new razor will be here in a couple of days from SRD. I was curious, should I strop the "shave ready razor?" Also, after the first initial shave how many times should I strop? On what side first (canvas or leather)? How many times should I make one stroke (up and down movement)?
Thanks in advance for your help! My excitement continues to grow and this site is a tremendous resource.

Having recently gotten a Dovo 6/8 from SRD I can suggest:
There will be a note with the razor, but if memory serves you just wipe it down and shave with it the first time.
My SOP pre-shave is 20 laps on the fabric (unpasted) side and 60 laps on the pre-warmed leather side.
And my normal post-shave is 20/20.
I was only doing 20/30 but upped the count on a recommendation from gssixgun along with some razors that he honed for me.
Hope that helps...

Thanked: 57No stropping when you get it. It'll be shave ready from Lynn. Strop it after you use it.

And as a side note, pay attention to how well it shaves, as it's coming shave ready from an experienced honemeister, (gross understatement not withstanding). That edge is the benchmark for your stopping, and (much) later, your honing.
When that edge changes is when there's something wrong.

Thanked: 2591Try without stropping it will take only a few passes to find out, if needed strop.
I believe Lynn hones the razors and strops them, it is also logical to do so as other wise the razor would not be quite shave ready.
