    Default Cleaning a strop?

I just recieved an Illinios #127 strop that I won on ebay it looks unused, its perfect. The only problem is it stinks of old stale cigarette smoke. How should I clean the linen side, I've cleaned the leather side with saddle soap. I'm a nonsmoker so the sooner I clean it the better. Thanks

I have always used dish soap and a stiff brush. Water is down, scrub in the soap, rinse and let dry for a couple days. Usually gets much whiter as well. Good luck.

A gentle laundry detergent should also do the trick. Especially if it's for hand-washables.

Hang it outside for a while, eventually the smell will go.

Baking soda is good for killing any offensive odors.

    Default Strop cleaning

I like baking soda as well as it as near as possible to being a non-offensive and mild cleaner as possible. For everything! It excels at getting rid of any smell including smoke smell. I even put a layer of it on the bottom of the cat's litter box and it helps quite a bit. I make up a thin paste of baking soda and brush it on with a tooth brush and then rinse with clear water. Hang to dry.
