I have a question..They say not to apply any pressure....but in this video it looks like he is adding some pressure and making the razor dip down in the strop.
Let it be known I am a noobie...but I always see conflicting claims.

Thanked: 485It's important to use very very little pressure when you are new to stropping. Using pressure and then rolling the edge (lifting the spine rather than keeping the razor completely flat on the strop) will dull the edge, and you'll end up with a razor that's duller not sharper. Once you get better at the mechanics of stropping, there is some pressure that is used, but I still use very very little.
It's not an exact science, I have never done an X stroke, doing only one diagonal of the X and it works for me :-)
CarlStranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

nzFuzzy, I think your video is the best of a consistent stroke (at the slower speed) that I have seen yet, although I am a new (old Fart) returning to the fold from many years absent, it looks to me as though you are dragging the blade on the stroke more than the spine and maybe a little heave on the pressure. Other than that, great technique.
True I have forgotten everything I knew about the strop, it just ain't right. (Or ...I just can't see very well)
Just my 2 cents, certainly not worth much.
Thanks for the video.Last edited by dta116; 06-07-2013 at 12:00 AM.
