Thanked: 3228Yea, for sure that was what I was doing wrong too, keeping the strop too taut. Must be another common problem for beginners.

My story is mostly how to do stuff wrong. I ate 5 strops, dulling the blade each time I tried. Like all the other parts of this wonderful art, it came in plateaus. Finally got a shaveable edge. Then stopped ruining it w/ my stropping. Got a few good edges. Stropping doing fine. Good edges became regular. and so it goes. I was thrilled w/ each of these breakthroughs - grateful for each one. 'Hope I have a few hundred more. Bravo for sticking with it, and working to learn. That's no small acheivement.

Thanked: 581i got immediate better results by not pulling strop too tight, you can sort of hear it as well as feel the draw.
