Default Oil tanned OK for strop making?

Its the dark brown waxy feeling stuff. I see people talk about " pull ' , well this should pull right? Is it ok or is there some reason not to use it? Oh btw its dark brown outside and yellow inside.

If it is what's called latigo in the US, you could use it.
Tony Miller uses it for his top notch strops.
The question is the quality of the piece of leather you have, surface smoothnes, does it stretch, is it firm or flimsy, what part of the hide is it from etc.
I don't really know what's needed for strops since I only have done general leatherworking, belts, wallets, purses etc. My guess is that you would like to have a piece from the neck, back area, not from the belly. Belly leather is to stretchy for belts and straps.
