Paddle strop
Ok still pretty new to straight shaving,getting the hang of it. I have a cheap hanging strop can anybody suggest a good paddle strop for a beginner??

+3 on Lynn's modular paddle!It's what I've used for a year now,the hard felt is great for touch ups when the razor starts pulling.

Spray it lightly on a hard felt pad (don't saturate the felt) and use it when your razor is in need of a light touch up. Let the pad dry over night before using. If you start honing you can use it as a last step in the process to finish the edge.

Honestly....I would say you should put it in a drawer for a month or so. Do NOT do anything with it, until you are pretty sure what to do with it
Diamonds work fast...that is good if you know what you are doing. Let me use an analogy of power tools...they can do a job much quicker than hand tools (this includes BAD jobs
Practice using the leather first. Keep it simple, one substrate, no load...just stropping. Learn how to do it, what it does for you, how much to do it, how much pressure to use, etc. There is much to learn...keep it simple at first and limit the strops and compound variables at first.
The diamond load is GREAT for touching up the razor. I would suggest that this will not be necessary very often if you are stropping correctly. When you feel the blade showing symptoms of dulling, then introduce the other components (diamonds or other loading compounds).
No offense intended...I just think it best to build a proper foundation/relationship with this new tool before complicating matters

I have the SRD Modular Paddle Strop as well, and I do like it. The .5 diamond spray on the hard felt really does the trick for quick touch-ups, and the leather pads, both the scrub and premium, are great for daily stropping. Though, I do find that I reach for my hanging strop daily, the length of the paddle is sufficient for a good stroke. Also, I take my modular paddle when I travel and it's perfect for that! I think it was a good investment.
