Thanked: 2Great question and one I'd wondered myself. On a related note, lots of knife makers seem use the blue painter's tape when making knives to keep from cutting themselves. It looks like it's thinner than electrical and might keep an angle more consistent with stropping. Anyone try it with either pasted strops or hones?

The problem with it is that it's not all that durable and electrical works just fine. Actually I don't see any problems with you using it. Give ti a shot and report in, we're all about discovering new things

I don't bother taping (but I'm certainly no expert!), its just too much of a pain in the but and I do think that you could screw up the beve angle - however,I am considering just taping the back of the spine of the razor to prevent scratching when rotating on stones.
Someone mentioned lapping to remove tape residue - this is overkill - a piece of scotchbrite or the abrasive side of a kitchen sponge (the ones with a sponge backed by an abrasive pad) is more than enough to remove the residue - since the sponge is less abrasive and softer than the stone, you don't have to worry about ruining the surface.
