Default So I met this girl......

And she works at a small local salon here in town. She has been doing straight razor shaves (and damn good ones too) but just kind of taught herself. She has read up on some things and much to my surprised has been on this site and watched some videos of Lynns and Gssixgun. Anyway she says she has been having trouble learning to strop. I looked at her strop and it was a vintage and in from what I could tell not great condition. Not many nicks, but the leather has started to dry. There is no cracking but the leather is pitted and not real smooth with a few wrinkles in some spots due to age. My question is can this typically be fixed by strop conditioner? If not I may try to get her a new one from Larry just because it is cool to know someone else that is into SR shaving.

    neats foot oil will work
also rub with palm once a day before stropping helps keep the leather in good shape.

I would think photos of the strop would be required to assess the condition and suggest a course of action.

I have some Fromm strop conditioner. Will that work as well as neatsfoot oil?

Some sanding may be necessary before the oil, if it's "pitted".

I use the Fromm strop dressing occasionally. It seems to work fine. Apply it sparingly -- if you put on too much, it'll build up on the surface of the strop.

Neatsfoot oil on the _back_ of the strop would be my choice for "bring it back from the dead".\

Or just buy a new strop.
