Default Don't let confidence outstrip ability

    Hi guys,

As someone relatively new to straight shaving I have just learned a lesson the hard way.

After a couple of months you'll find your confidence grows to a point, your ability does not always follow.

I've learned the x pattern on the strop and thought I was ok, not particularly quick but quick enough.

I was stropping my wee little HB&H last night a bit too enthusiastically. The result is a ding in the cutting edge, albeit a small repairable one.

When it happened I was......well not happy and the razor will need to be sent out for repair.

A costly mistake I would happily see no other beginner make.

No worries my friend, it WILL happen to pretty much everyone. Even as a shaving veteran there is always that chance of dropping a razor. "Stuff" just happens sometimes...

Like the belt buckle says "$h!# happens", oldie or newbie, occums razor effect just wins sometimes (pun intended...waka waka waka!).
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

You are a great stropper if you can learn the x pattern. It took me forever to learn to just go up and down on a 3" strop. I think this was more of a challenge than learning how to shave.

Lots of things can go wrong in all phases of straight shaving. Sorry about the mishap, I know how frustrating it can be.

I thought I had made a mistake once, but I was wrong.

    Been there, done that...

There is life after razor damage. Some day you'll look back on this and just laugh.

I hope so. I find at present I'm looking back and cringing.

On the upside I've found a Kropp in tres nice condition for not very much. Every cloud....
