Default Angle Definitely Makes a Difference

For some time now I've felt that I wasn't getting the most out of my strop. After watching Lynn's video on stropping now I know it to be true. I had my strop hanging at almost shoulder level and was stroking up and away/down and back. After seeing the video, I moved my hanger to waist level and allowed the strop to cant slightly to match the natural angle that I held the razor. Not only did it feel more comfortable, the results were amazing. I also didn't hear the telltale ringing sound at the end of the stroke (I was a chronic lifter). I feel that the lifting of the razor may have been a symptom of having to hold it at an unnatural flat angle. Long story short - I had the best shave that I've had in months. Thanks Lynn.

When I started out I had that same issue. With my strop hanging up high, I had to fight not rolling the razor onto the edge when I got to the top and down to the bottom of the strop. However, when you're repeating the same motion dozens of times each day, I found that I would always roll up on the edge a few times and that's a quick way to dull your edge. I then did the same as you, moved my strop to waste level and haven't looked back.

I mount my strops at just below elbow level. That way my forearm is always fairly parallel to the floor (and the ceiling!!!). After 45 years, I find this to be a very comfortable position.

I have a small room with bathroom, I fix the strop to my bathroom doorhandle and sit on my bed to strop, seems to work
Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Never even thought about strop-height. As luck would have it our towel hooks are mounted just about 2 inches below my solar plexus giving me a comfortable angle. Good thing I saw this now, will be moving soon and I'd hate mess up my stropping just because I hung a screw to high.
