chromium carbonate/oxide
i have bough about a pound of each in powder form to stain my porcelain work and i still have some left and i was wondering if it could be applied to my linnen certifyd strop? according to my former ceramics teacher chromium carbonate has a smaller particle size. now i dont know the micron size or wether it is usable but it might be worth a try.

Thanked: 522After a quick search, the smallest particles I could find are 2 micron chromium carbonate. You would want .5 or .3 micron chromium oxide for your strop.
I think SRD sells it.JERRY

The carbonate would also be way softer than the oxide so figure that into the mix too.

Decisions, decisions; it's there a way to find out the particle size of either the oxide or carbonate that I have?

Yup. Experiment is half the fun. As long as you have the skills to bring the edge back no prob.
Fuzzy- that's super cool and I remember some other SEM pics you have posted here. Nice. What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Thanked: 3215Put some on a paint stir stick and, stropping only the top half of the blade, from the middle to the toe. Look at the bevel with magnification and see if it is improved over Chrome Oxide.
Then shave with it.
