    Default Strops and CrOx

I have a cheapo begginers strop and some crayon CrOx can I use this on the strop for minor corrections or do you have to use paste on a leather strop? and I'm thinking about diamond spray for my felt side, is the diamond finer than CrOx so when refreshing an edge I would take some laps on CrOx then some on diamond spray felt then naked leather?

It depends on where you got the crayon. Most crox crayons are of made with larger microns and are not as pure as what we normally talk about here.

If you don't know for certain what micron your crox is get something else.

As to diamond it can be both higher micron then crox and lower micron then crox just depends on what you buy.

    RVShave,

For the same particle size, the diamond will cut much, much faster than CrOx.

The most common particle size for CrOx (for straight razor use) seems to 0.5 micron.

Diamond is available in a whole range of sizes, e.g. 3, 1, 0.5, 0.25 & 0.1 micron, in a variety of media (paste, spray etc.)

From posts here on SRP, it seems that people who use both, use the diamond first then CrOx, but this seems not to be fixed in stone.

Experimenting is part of the fun of straight razor shaving

I use 0.5 micron diamond on a hard leather strop for my knives, and it cuts plenty quick

For my razors, I prefer 0.5 micron CrOx dusted onto a hard leather paddle.

You can use your CrOx stick on felt or leather - you just need to make sure you have a plain, un-treated leather side left to do your daily stropping on

    Have fun !

    Best regards
