So then, what is the point of stropping on Denim?

Just paste paper, cardboard or craft foam, if you want a flat substrate.

Many of us have test stropped, the same razor daily on paste, for well over a year with no ill effects, to the razor or edge.

It is not the substrate or the paste that damaged the edge, it is technique. Convexing a bevel is a good thing and will not affect the edge, other than to strengthen it.

The first point for me was to avoid the over-priced leather strops. Beyond that was to really try to get my head wrapped around what is happening to the razor so as to come up with a couple options that do different things to the edge with minimal effort. There isn't a good consensus on SRP regarding stropping. for example, what is the effect on the edge from using a spandex blend vs 100% cotton. Or has anyone calculated the length of the strop's effect on curvature of the bevel? Or in my case how aggressive a strop can be made to be.

My latest result... 12 laps taking a razor from hht-4 down to hht-2 (shave test full fail). Back to leather 50 laps to return to hht-4. Any thoughts on why/how?

Post some photos of your strop and the razor in question.

Did you ever re-set the bevel of the razor you roached with improper stropping? What did you hone it on?
    Substance and Slawman like this.
