Boker Paddle Strop with Hone
Just ordered the Boker Paddle strop with Russian leather and a slate hone on the other side. I've heard mention that the slate comes in at 5k grit, but no way to confirm that....
Anyone have this strop and hone and any feedback / instructions on it's use?
Thanks as always!

I have it and use the slate like a barber hone. Mine seems to be more in the 8-12k range. It's a very nice piece.

Yes it is a smaller stone so the x stroke is needed. Shouldn't be a problem if you are use to the x stroke.
As to having to lap it I did but probably didn't really need to as it was pretty flat to begin with. It's an easy stone to lap so that won't be a problem. Just got to be careful of the strop on the other side.
One last thing make sure to remember to change the direction of the razor when going from honing to stropping.

One other way you can use it is as an everyday strop.
You would do 3-5 laps on the stone and then as many laps as you like on the leather.
This was instructions I found on an old pike strop hone. I did this with my pike strop hone for a couple months and found it worked well.
After that I did the same thing with this strop hone and found it work even better.
It also how I found out to make sure to flip the razor. That was a very rude awakening as I apparently stropping while still asleep. Shaved off a nice chunk of strop. That's a lot of work to fix.
I don't use mine this way typically but do use it that way when I travel.

So I received my Boker paddle strop / hone, its quite nice, can see how it would be great for travelling.
Took an old / practice razor and gave it a few laps on the dry hone, wow, refreshed the razor quite nicely. Will be interesting to take another razor and compare the refresh between the dry barbers hone and the coticule.
I'm thinking the coti will put a smoother edge, but that's just a guess. Would be interested in opinions of those with more experience between the two.
Cheers!
