I recently made this (travel) strop out of PVC coated polyester (bisonyl, truck tarpaulin). It's widely available as band in different widths (photo shows 50mm width) for less then €1 / mtr.
Use of this material is common for both sailing and camping business.

+ Stropping works fine: a nice 'drag' en accepteble edge results.
+ The strop is flexible, just roll it and put them in your pocket.
+ Wet environment, no problem!

- Because of the smoothness cleaning the razors edge (i.e. lather residue, rust) is not one of the best points.
