It's been a long time since I've read that thread! I tell my beginners, deliberate stropping. Speed kills the strop and the edge. With time you will develop a touch for the optimal draw and speed with your own razor(s). Wait maybe if you could have too many razors to remember what each one needs?!

Thanked: 270I think I was possibly the slowest learner in all phases of straight razor shaving among us, so believe me when I tell you not to worry about this.
I have ruined strops but I can tell you with complete confidence that I never ruined an edge stropping. If anyone would have done this, it was me.
This is one concern on the part of new straight shavers that I would like to see eliminated.
