    Default Home made strop?

Hi, I'm looking to make my first home made strop but I'm wondering what the best kinds of leather are, and equally important, which ones are somewhat gentle on the wallet..
    TIA

Depends where you live on the leather type. For your first strop I'd suggest plain old cow leather. Decent piece of course, good quality, no imperfections.

If you have leather crafters locally you may be able to get them to cut you a piece to size of what they use. They strop their cutting tools, or the one near me does, and the leather they use to do it with works fine on razors. Should be cheap enough.

The other part of the cost is the finishing - handle, attachment hardware etc. Again, the leather shop or look online for that stuff.

    Good luck.
