Pasted Strop Patent from 1927
I thought this might be of interest to some. Forgive me if this is well documented already. I did a quick search and didn't find anything.
This is is a patent for a strop with lard and crushed slate although he proposes that other materials may work such as neats foot oil, ect. I thought it was an interesting read.

Thanked: 3795I find it interesting that he concedes the following.
"I am aware of the fact that solid hard hones have been made of various kinds of abrasive materials and also of the fact that leather strops have been improved in their quality by treatment of the surface with compositions involving mixtures of corunduin or the like, and of a lubricating mate rial."
Then he goes on to describe his unique invention which seems to involve the addition of a lubricating material and an abrasive. It's funny what people can get away with patenting.

Yeah. Definitely not a new idea as they had already been using different things to paste strops with. I may have to try to get some very fine Guangxi dust from my stone and mix it into a paste and put it on an old strop. I am not thinking it will be any better than the pasted balsa I have and it might even be a flop but it will be fun experimenting anyways.
