Thanked: 0what paste to use first?
Hi, got this set that came with a cheap strop. I don't know which paste to use first, which is the finer one, etc.
I also don't know if I should just use the finer paste and stick with that, or use one, and wash it off, then re paste on the strop with the finishing paste..
here is the set I got.
Thx!

Thanked: 9You need pastes to refresh your blade time to time. That way you don't have to hone or send to hone your razor so often. If you have just only one strop then you shouldn't spread any paste on strop because you always need pure fine leather to strop your razor for shaving.
You can use pastes when razor starts to pull and tug while shaving. Usually if you do it right away when you feel this kind of symptom you will only need finer paste. Remember to check that your edge is not warped because then it will need honing.
You can use pastes with different linen and they will work fine, you don't need leather for that.

Thanked: 39To answer your question, chromium oxide is a good bet. Works well on linen or canvas. You shouldn't have to use it too often - my preference is to do it when the razor starts to pull on my hair when shaving.
