Default 4 sided strop - limited to 2 sides = Suggestions

    I have a 4 sided strop:
30 Degree Thin Latigo Natural Leather Strop with Handle, 3" | RoyalShave

I have it hanging on a wall. The problem is I can only use two parts of the strop as I have no way of laying the strop up on a counter top to use the undersides of the primary surfaces. As it is now, it will twist and is not flat when/if I try to use the under-sides.

I really like the placement and as well as the angle where it's currently hung. Not much space in my bathroom either. The only real counter space I have is a small sink (which is totally occupied by brushes, soaps, etc.). Besides, I can't see flipping the strop up onto a (more than likely) wet surface to use the undersides of the primary surfaces. It'd get my nice strop all wet and .... yes, I'm going to say it... yucky!

The only thing I can think of is some sort of clip or magnet to hold up one of the strops but don't know what/how to do that and still have a relatively attractive decor.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have a similar model (but cheaper) and I always assumed you just used the front of each strap. If you are pasting one side and worried about laying it down for use, you can have a sacrificial towel that you can lay under it. Another option would be to store it on its current spot on the wall and install a hook on the sink base for daily use. I have also used a loop of nylon strapping to tie the strop off to the door handle.

    Best of luck.

It looks like a normal 2-sided strop to me, with two leather components rather than the more usual linen/leather.

I am with Neil. The leather is to be used on the front side with the logo while the nylon webbed strop hangs. The nylon webbed one would be summarily used by turning the whole strop over and allowing the leather to hang. Backsides of leather strops are usually not finished smoothly. Better to use only the top!

Thanks for your replies! Yes one of the strops is a canvas strop. I've seen videos where the guy put chromium oxide on one of the sides of the canvas. How To Sharpen/Hone A Straight Razor Blade/Touch-Up Using Strops and Paste Geofatboy/Shave Nation - YouTube

In the video you can see him flip one part of the strop up so he can use the underside which he's applied the chromium oxide which leaves the other side of the canvas still usable when he doesn't need to use the ChroOx.

This is what has me kinda stumped because I cannot simply flip one of the strops onto a counter top. What I'm going to do is order a small (1" round by 1/8" thick) but powerful magnet and adhere it to the wall. This should allow me to hold up the part of the strop utilizing the metal hardware in the handle. I'll let you know how this works!

    Cheers!

I see. You might consider some sort of hook to hold it up there. It might not be pretty if it came down whilst stropping!
Also, I believe that fabric is nylon? I don't know how well that works with pastes or CroOx. Anyone?
You might be better off to use the backside of the leather for this if it is smooth enough.
    Good luck!
