    Default Illinois 827

Just got this strop in the mail today, Illinois 827, should I do anything to it before I strop. The linen component seems very stiff and the leather side is somewhat rough, break in? Or just strop?

Give it a few rubs with your Palm and have at it. The linen will break in with use. The leather works fine and as intended with that little roughness.

I have an Illinois 827, and yes, it is rougher than other strops. Mine has seen a lot of use, and hasn't seemed to soften up much at all. All I've ever done to it besides palm rubbing before stropping is apply the occasional treatment of Fromm Strop Conditioner to it. The 827 is my "go to" strop, excellent quality in my opinion, and will last many years. Enjoy!
