New SRP Latigo Strop
Just got my brand new Latigo strop from SRP. This thing is a work of art. Used it today for first time and I could just start to hear and feel the razor talking to me. Great feel to it as well.
I have a question on this it comes with canvas and smooth leather and rough leather. I know folks put there different things on the canvas and use this for that. But can you use the canvas for stropping then going right to the smooth. Or should one just use the rough part of the leather than go to the smooth. Just trying to figure out if the canvas can be used in my regular stropping

The way I use it is I do 30 on the linen to warm the blade then 60 on smooth leather. After shaving I repeat the process to clean the blade and to dry it out well

In short yes. Try it with a few variations of stroke quantity on the different surfaces and see how you go. I don't have this particular strop but fabric and leather is a pretty standard stopping combo. However I only have a leather strop. I tried fabric too but personally didn't see any need to use it.

To answer the OP's question: Yes, the cloth is meant to be used clean before the leather to help remove hair, soap scum and surface oxidation before moving on to the burnishing that the leather accomplishes.
I treat one side of the linen with. 5 micron diamond spray for touch ups and use the clean linen as described above.
The linen serves a purpose and I recommend using it. BTW, I own three SRD Latigo strops just like yours. You made an excellent choice.

I have the SRD Latigo as well. I have never used the rough side of the leather. I have the inside portion of the linen Xed with .5 crox that I use sparingly. Normally, 25 to 30 on the outer linen followed by 40 to 60 laps (up and down is 1 lap) on the smooth leather. I will recommend rubbing your dry palm on the leather a few times before any stropping. Helps keep the Latigo conditioned.
