Thanked: 1587Use the textured side for pasting with CrOx. Leave the smooth leather for normal stropping.
If you decide you want to try another kind of paste, I think you should get another maybe cheaper (as in less nice) paddle for that rather than treat the smooth side of the one you already have.
You need a plain leather surface for stropping, so unless you have another strop for that purpose you shouldn't paste both sides of the SRD paddle.

Thanked: 1587Oh, and one last thing. After stropping your razor on the CrOx side make sure you wipe the razor's edge and spine thoroughly to remove any abrasive *before* continuing on to the smooth leather side. You don't want to contaminate the plain leather with any residual CrOx on the razor.

Thanked: 1184I think Jimbo pretty much said it all. Cross contamination is the mistake you don't want to make.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 10One more question: how often do you reapply the paste (or spray in this case)?

Both sides can be used just as effectively. Reapplication isn't necessary till what is applied the first time stops working.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
