By that token, the ma-in-law's mother must have been worse. I was a company director at the time I first met her, new car every year, lots of money. She was convinced it was all a show, just to impress her. I impressed her, all right - waxed the leather rear seat of the car before lending it to my girl-friend (now wife) to pick her up. The wife drives like a bat out of hell and the poor old biddy went sliding from one side of the seat to the other. HAR!

I was reproached very stiffly, obviously. I had to go to bingo (a game invented especially for old biddies in my estimation) with the gf and her gran to make up. I had a couple of beers and made a point of smiling at her - couldn't talk, because you had to be silent for the two hour duration of the 'fun' we were having.

Turns out she branded me an alcoholic and drug taker for 'leering, at her. I went back on the offensive after that. Drug-taker, indeed!

    Regards,
    Neil

I like your style. If I had been smart I would have divorced sooner, based on m-in-l because chip off the old block does hold true at times. At any rate, glad I did stick it out till three great kids that are a comfort to me. Ask them about their mother and they all will reply, "She's not my mother, she's yours and your other sibling."
